The Middle East Academy for Medicine of Ageing (MEAMA), in co-operation with Abyad Medical Center of Lebanon, the Middle-East Longevity Institute of Lebanon, and Multimedia University MMU of Australia, is holding four-day course sessions in Tripoli, Lebanon. Each session will receive the highest category of CME credit based on reciprocal accreditation with the Royal Australia College of General Practitioner.
The first MEAMA course was held to stimulate the development of health care services for older people in the Middle East area, to meet the health related problems of older adults in the Middle East, and to improve knowledge and skills of professionals, physicians, nurses, and health care officers. MEAMA works to harmonize the attitudes and goals of future opinion leaders in approaching the health related problems of older people in the Middle East area. In addition, it works to establish a network among physicians, nurses and health care officers to stimulate scientific interest in the health related problems in older people. At the end of the sessions participants will receive a certificate and will be graduated as members of the MEAMA.
Two MEAMA sessions have already been held. The first session was from November 6-9, 2008, and was titled “Principles of Geriatrics & Gerontology.” The second session was held from April 2-5, 2009, and was titled “Geriatric Syndromes, Conditions & Rehabilitation.” The next two sessions will be on November 4-7, 2009, and titled "Health Care Services for The Elderly," and on April 1-4, 2010, titled "Psychogeriatrics & Health Promotion."
