Description of opportunity:
The Exercise and Sport Science (ESS) graduate degrees are designed to develop expertise in the disciplines of Exercise Physiology, Sports Medicine, Sport and Exercise Psychology, Pedagogy, Motor Behavior, and Sociohistorical Studies. Students have opportunities to enhance their understanding of physical activity as it relates to each of these disciplines many of which include a focus on aging. Students interested in focusing on physical activity and aging would take courses such as Development and Implementation of Fitness Programs, Nutrition and Physical Fitness, Exercise and Older Adults, Exercise Psychology, Motor Behavior and Aging, Exercise Assessment, and Exercise Prescription. A Certificate in Gerontology may be obtained simultaneously.
Who should participate:
Students with degrees in any related area are invited to apply for admission into the graduate degree programs. A bachelor’s degree is required to apply for the MS degree. Both a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree are required to apply for the EdD or the PhD. The MS/PhD is an accelerated degree program that is appropriate for students with a bachelor’s degree and with appropriate research experience.
