Continuing Education Policies

Human Kinetics will adhere to the Code of Ethics, appropriate language guidelines, copyright and conflict of interest policies of each of the organizations it partners with, as well as the below:

Non-Discriminatory Policy

No individual should be denied participation in Human Kinetics’ CE programs on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, disability, military status, sexual orientation or age. Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements will be considered if live events are hosted.

Learning Support and Reasonable Adjustments

All Human Kinetics continuing education programs are distance education courses. In support of our Non-Discriminatory Policy, we intend to accommodate individual learner’s needs when possible. To enable us to identify any specific learning needs and make appropriate adjustments, please contact us by telephone or email at 217-351-5076 ext. 2230 or ce@hkusa.com. This will also help us support these special accommodations and allow us to follow up to evaluate the effectiveness of the provisions.

Copyright Policy & Procedure

Human Kinetics ensures proper documentation is obtained prior to course release that clearly demonstrates permission to use the material in the course. Human Kinetics will use a Speaker Release form if events are conducted that would require one. All permission management is handled and reviewed by our permissions manager(s). Program instructors and sponsors, when applicable, will be required to complete a Release Form stating the use of copyrighted materials prior to participating in the CE program.

Conflict of Interest Policy & Procedure

All individuals in a position to influence the content of a program to be offered for continuing education credits must disclose any relevant financial or nonfinancial relationship(s) that might affect independent involvement in the proposed program. Any speaker or planning committee member who refuses to disclose financial or nonfinancial relationships will be disqualified from participating in the planning and implementation of the program. Sponsors will be listed in promotional and program materials. No registered, trademarked or copyrighted material, products or techniques will be used within the program. CEUs will not be given for time if products are mentioned, or goods and services are promoted per the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) (www.accme.org) requirements.

Cancellation and Refund Policy

Continuing Education and Coach Education* courses that are unopened can be returned within 30 days of the date of receipt of your shipment. For online Continuing Education and Coach Education* courses that have not been accessed, a refund (less shipping/handling) will also be given at the request of the customer within 30 days of purchase. All online access to the course will be revoked at that time. After 30 days of purchase,or if the course has been accessed or the package opened, customers may exchange the course for an online course of similar value.

*Specific to Coach Education: No refund will be given for a course that has been completed (test passed and certification granted). In the event a customer purchases and completes a course (test passed and certification granted) only to discover it was not the correct course, we will credit the amount of the original course toward the purchase of the correct course. Test scores and certifications earned by completing the incorrect course will be expunged from the database.

Grievance/Appeals Policy & Procedure

Human Kinetics is committed to conducting all activities in strict conformance with accreditation agencies and boards. Human Kinetics will comply with all responsibilities to be nondiscriminatory in activities, program content and in treatment of participants. Human Kinetics will provide participants with the ability to raise any complaints or concerns they may have. While Human Kinetics attempts to assure fair treatment of all participants, we recognize grievances that may require intervention. Grievances are handled in the following manner:

When a participant, either orally or in written format, files a grievance/complaint or wishes to appeal their assessment results, the Continuing Education Committee (Division Director, Continuing Education Manager, sales/marketing representative) will evaluate the nature of the complaint. If it is meritorious, the Continuing Education Committee will instruct staff to implement any necessary changes in the course/exam. The complainant will receive a response from the Continuing Education Manager or designated staff within 5 working days.

Participants may file a complaint by telephone or email.
